Amida, or Amitayus, is the chief Buddha of Mahayana Buddhism and is also considered the heavenly Buddha of Pure Land Buddhism. Amida stands barefoot on a double lotus throne, his body encircled by a monastic robe, the material of which is arranged in lifelike folds and gilding appears in places alongside the black lacquer finish.
